‘Slap Shot’ (1977)

Slap Shot often tops the list of memorable sports movies thanks to its realistic portrayal of hockey, memorable characters like the Hansen Brothers (pictured), and a game-leading performance from Paul Newman. However, the film may have been somewhat too realistic for its own good. The levels of blood, violence and so-called “blue” language (including homophobic slurs) simply would not be acceptable today.
