These Movies Could Never Be Made Today
Whether one calls it “cancel culture” or simply Hollywood adapting to the ever-changing world around them, the entertainment landscape is constantly changing what is acceptable content. Things that were once commonplace have become taboo, which is why none of these controversial films would be made the same way today. Many of these controversial films are still held up as iconic despite their perceived flaws today, but there’s almost no doubt that none of them would be made today.
‘Forrest Gump’ (1994)
Upon its release in 1994, Forrest Gump was hailed as a masterpiece in the way it looked at the second half of the 20th century through the lens of the Baby Boomer generation. However, as the film has aged, its Boomer-centric view of issues ranging from the Vietnam War and peaceful protests to the Black Panther Party and the Aids epidemic (in particular the way the film treats Jenny) have become less and less acceptable, meaning that any potential remake would have to change things up considerably.
